  • Summary: The ideal candidate will have high energy coupled with a passion for helping urban middle school students in post-secondary preparation. Candidate must be committed to distributed leadership, actively participate in a professional learning community and embrace families and the community to achieve a common outcome for the student achievement in a school. Candidate should possess strong interpersonal and (oral/written) communication skills; be detailed oriented, independent and flexible; as well as have patience and empathy for adolescents and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supports University Prep Schools’ goal of ensuring 90% graduation, 90% post-secondary enrollment, and 90% FAFSA completion through various college and career readiness strategies and initiatives Assists college counselor with coordination of college and career readiness activities, trips, and events for students Assists college counselor with administrative tasks including file management, college material mailings, and database tracking systems Utilizes technology systems and other sources to track and manage data pertaining to summer program activity, college application statuses, and scholarship outcomes Provides direct assistance to students with tasks required for successful college enrollment, college entrance exam registration, scholarship completion, and summer program participation Conducts ongoing research and provides resources on college admissions, financial aid and scholarship, and summer program opportunities for students Develops and disseminates an ongoing list of scholarship opportunities and resources for middle school scholars. Develops and disseminates ongoing database/listing of summer enrichment program opportunities for grades 6th -8th Attends middle school staff meetings as determined by school site Attends professional development conferences in college admissions and financial aid as required Evening and weekend availability is required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an educational or human service field (preferred) Experience working with students in a high school setting is strongly preferred Experience providing instruction in a classroom setting is desirable Strong communication and human relations skills are required
