Job description

Group Cycle Instructor

The Demakes Family YMCA is searching for a group cycle instructor to lead high-energy, fun, music-driven classes for our members! We are looking for classes that keep the hearts pumpin’ and the beats bumpin’ and have slots available for exclusively cycle-based classes and classes combining cycle and strength.

Qualifications

  • A valid group exercise and/or cycle instructor certification
  • CPR/AED certification
  • At least one year of instructing experience
  • A passion for fitness and community

Essential Functions

  • To be successful in this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Other essential and non-essential responsibilities and projects may be assigned.
  • Safely and effectively guide participants through fitness classes with professional, concise instruction in line with current industry standards
  • Program engaging fitness classes with appropriate playlists and exercise routines which are changed up regularly
  • Responsible for presenting a positive and competent image of the YMCA through quality programming designed to meet the needs of the community.
  • Remain current in required and voluntary trainings at the Metro North YMCA
  • Must start and end on time and be well organized and prepared to teach classes.
  • Provide excellent customer service to build relationships with all participants in class, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise.
  • Communicate effectively with the Health and Wellness Director via phone, email, or in person.
  • Understand and follow all administrative procedures and adhere to the guidelines outlined in the YMCA Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to all building policies and procedures and assist as needed during emergencies.
  • Attend Group Fitness and department staff meetings.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.

  • Possess excellent communication and human relation skills.
  • Ability to work as an integral member of the team.
  • Ability to handle member concerns quickly and effectively
  • Ability to encourage members to reach their fitness and wellness goals.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate and correct techniques when teaching Group Fitness classes.
  • Some lifting may occasionally be required of up to 45 pounds.
