Associate Teacher Department: P-8 Reports To: LMS Associate Director, Teacher Associate Program & New Faculty Programs FLSA Classification: Non-exempt FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 100% Schedule of Duties: 10-Month Salary: $27.00-$30.05/ hour DOE Position Purpose: The Lower School Associate Teacher is responsible for learning from a mentor Lead Teacher while supporting a dynamic, inclusive learning environment for students. Specific Expectations for P-8
Faculty
In addition to regular teaching responsibilities—such as curriculum planning, class preparation, grade reporting, report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, and participation in class trips—P-8 faculty are expected to contribute to the broader school community and support program growth. This includes building a strong sense of community for students, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, engaging in professional development and training opportunities, and attending required meetings and events, such as Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, and class overnight trips, as directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible. Essential Functions Collaborative curriculum planning Preparing classroom materials Leading group activities and lessons, including small reading and math groups Supporting curricular and student assessment Helping maintain a clean, organized learning environment Communicating regularly with the lead teacher Modeling patience, flexibility, kindness, responsibility, a sense of humor, and a respect for others Participating in the formal communication with parents, such as parent conferences, report writing, and Back-to-School Night Contributing to the school community in faculty meetings, professional development, and events Ability to lead virtual instruction if needed Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education or education-related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred. Proficient in use of technology including Google Suite, Zoom, Seesaw. Experience working with lower school-age children in some capacity (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camps). Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred. An appreciation and desire to work with all types of learners. Enthusiasm for pursuing a teaching career and the flexibility necessary to be mentored. Initiative and openness to receiving and giving feedback. Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and professionalism to thrive in a collaborative environment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality. Be able to comfortably transition between seated positions on the floor to standing in order to assist children. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area. Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus. Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends. Abide by school’s current safety policies (ex: wearing masks, washing hands, etc.) Qualifications
