The Recreation Specialist coordinates and delivers recreational, educational, and vocational activities for youth while ensuring safety and facility maintenance. They also supervise youth participation, manage equipment inventory, and teach extracurricular classes to support personal development.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of experience in recreation or arts and crafts instruction. A valid Florida Driver License is required, and applicants must be able to obtain Lifeguard Instructor certification.
The Recreation Specialist has the primary responsibility of coordinating and delivering components of the Recreation Program, as well as teaching and exploring projects and career opportunities in trade fields. The individual will work closely with Volunteers, Cottage Parents, the Donald Ralph Cooke School, and Work Program site supervisors to conduct a diversified recreation and arts and crafts program. Duties will vary with changing seasons and allow for the exercise of independent judgment within established program guidelines.
The Recreation Specialist reports directly to the Chaplain/Recreation Director. This position is expected to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on program needs.
This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable law.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) months of experience in recreation or arts and crafts instruction, preferably working with children or youth. Must hold, or obtain within a specified timeframe, Lifeguard Instructor certification. Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, education, or a related field. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $18.00 per Hour
