Job description

  • This position offers the opportunity to practice in a quiet, rural community with the benefit of being part of a larger university health system—providing both a close-knit team environment and access to broader resources and support.

  • The Occupational Therapist PRN conducts evaluations on referred patients.
  • The Occupational Therapist PRN plans and implements a comprehensive treatment program that includes discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow-up or continued care.
  • The Occupational Therapist PRN documents results of the OT evaluation and services provided in accordance with hospital and department guidelines.
  • The Occupational Therapist PRN participates as a member of a self-directed departmental team as well as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team.
  • The Occupational Therapist PRN provides clinical instruction to OT and OTA students as needed.
  • This position provides training and education to department and hospital staff.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Licensed (or licensed eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Completion of licensing requirements for new graduates within 1 year of graduation.

  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area Experience REQUIRED: New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as an Occupational Therapist Experience PREFERRED: Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility Education/training REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy Education/training PREFERRED: Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy Independent action(s) required: Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses.
  • Setting schedule and managing time.
  • Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Goal setting for routine diagnoses.
  • Completion of routine documentation.
  • Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self-directed work team.
  • Customer interaction.
  • Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Occupational Therapist provides supervision for Rehab Technicians, COTA staff, volunteers and students doing clinical rotations.
  • Additional position requirements: Schedules and work hours will be established with your specific Manager.
  • Schedules, including weekends and holidays, will be required based on the unit’s organizational and staffing needs.
  • Age Specific groups served: As appropriate based on unit assignment.
  • Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical - Lifting 50-100 lbs.
