Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a licensed childcare program. Core Competencies Development and implementation of activities for children Supervision of children and staff Provides a quality experience for all participants including participants, members, and team members Maintains professionalism, displays integrity, and works cooperatively Job Responsibilities Planning and implementing daily program activities Coordinating activities of Assistant Group Supervisors and Aides (Camp Counselor – Licensed) Assisting the Director with designated activities Communicating effectively with participants, parents/guardians, team members, and supervisor Managing difficult situations with a high level of professionalism Making independent decisions and determining appropriate courses of action Leading and participating in activities in a variety of outdoor and indoor settings Ensuring the safety and welfare of participants and team members Assuring compliance with YMCA quality standards and safety protocols related to camp programs Ensuring upkeep of facilities and equipment, including set-up and closing of activities Understanding emergency procedures, responding appropriately, and knowing the location of emergency equipment Maintaining attendance records as required Observing and discussing individual progress with participants and parents/guardians as appropriate Maintaining compliance with required training, clearances, and certifications Attending meetings and training as required Performing other duties as assigned Regulatory Duties Assisting in the implementation of daily activities under the guidance of the Group Supervisor Coordinating daily activities and supervising aides in the absence of the Group Supervisor Physical Requirements Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally Must be able to run occasionally Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally Must pass TB test (as required by licensing) Must pass a physician-completed health assessment (as required by licensing) Equal Opportunity Statement The YMCA of Indiana County complies with ADA and considers reasonable accommodation measures that may be necessary for eligible applicants/employees to perform essential job functions. QualificationsMinimum Age Minimum of 18 years of age Education and Experience (One of the Following Required) High school diploma or GED and 30 college credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or human services High school diploma or GED and 600+ hours of approved secondary training (per § 3270.31(c)) High school diploma or GED, 15 relevant college credit hours, and 1 year of experience with children High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved post-secondary training curriculum (per § 3270.31(c)) High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience with children Skills and Abilities Ability to teach and demonstrate a variety of skills and activities appropriate to programs Ability to develop and implement programming Ability to lead and direct camp staff Required Clearances and Certifications PA Criminal Clearance Certificate PA Child Abuse Clearance Certificate PA FBI Clearance (DHS) Certificate National Sex Offender Registry Certificate (DHS) Physical and TB Test Mandated Reporter Training DHS 10-hour training (after hire) First Aid/CPR/AED certification (children and adults)
