Resident Advisor

Job Description

PURPOSE Functions as part of a therapeutic team providing support in a rehabilitative program to individuals residing in a Transitional (Independent) Living Program. This position assists with maintaining a therapeutic environment that promotes fairness, safety, and hope. Provides guidance and direction to residents to support successful goal achievement by teaching, modeling, and coaching individuals toward safety and meeting their basic physiological, safety, and belonging needs.

Essential functions – job duties

Program Staffing The Residential Advisor is a member of the program staff team and works collaboratively to provide guidance, support, and programming to residents.

Responsibilities

include: Review facility logs and discuss operational issues with coworkers Supervise program activities for residents Communicate concerns to the Director of Independent Living or designee Review non-case-specific emails and correspondence Complete communication and shift change logs Maintain accurate timecards and complete expense reports as needed Complete daily checklists

Maintain Physical Site The Residential Advisor works daily with residents and participates in maintaining the physical environment.

Responsibilities

include: Report maintenance issues to Supervisor Complete monthly fire drills Assist residents in maintaining clean, organized apartments Support residents in passing weekly inspections

Training The Residential Advisor participates in all required training and development in accordance with licensing standards and program requirements.

Responsibilities

include: Participate in supervision (as recipient) Complete Crisis Prevention & Intervention Training Engage in required training (as trainee or trainer)

Program Needs The Residential Advisor ensures the care and well-being of each youth in the program through positive interaction, mentoring, and structured support.

Responsibilities

include: Provide routine daily supervision of residents Supervise youth during school and extracurricular activities Transport residents to appointments, court hearings, work, and other required locations Assist residents in developing goals for Individual Service Plans (ISPs) Conduct interviews and complete assessments Administer drug tests Administer medications Provide basic first aid Complete documentation, including progress notes and incident reports Utilize Crisis Prevention & Intervention techniques Ensure safety, security, and emergency procedures are followed Provide information and referrals for needed services Plan and implement youth group activities Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Job requirements

Education / Knowledge High School Diploma or GED required CPR/First Aid Certification (training provided by employer) Essential Job-Related Experience Ability to form and maintain professional relationships Ability to follow rules and guidelines Ability to enforce program-specific rules Preferred Experience One (1) year of experience working with youth in a residential setting Microsoft 365 proficiency Basic computer skills Orientation Completion of both online and in-person training Yearly Training 40 hours mandated by OCYF Additional Mandatory Annual Training PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting Trauma-Informed Care Project Starfish Crisis Prevention & Intervention PA Medication Administration Supporting Children & Families with Disabilities HIPAA & Confidentiality Clearances National Sex Offender Registry (every 5 years) FBI Clearance (every 3 years) PA State Police Background Check (every 3 years) PA Child Abuse Clearance (every 3 years) Physical Exam and TB Test (every 2 years) Additional Requirements Ability to work a flexible schedule Valid State-Issued Photo ID
