Job description
Primary Duties & Essential Functions
- Deliver the primary instruction to students as scheduled.
- Prepare lesson plans and instructional material based on the New York State Standards.
- Evaluate and recommend instructional material.
- Evaluate and record the academic progress of each student.
- Maintain and follow the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each classified student.
- Maintain and follow the Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) for each student.
- Create and maintain a safe learning environment within the classroom.
- Assess and record program outcomes on the agency database.
- Assigns tasks and monitors the performance of the teacher aide.
- Assume other responsibilities that belong to all education staff members, such as participation in the behavior management program, ensuring the health, safety, and supervision of students, and enforcing the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
- Initiate communication and consultation with other staff in response to student concerns.
- Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with all agency staff.
- Develop supportive and nurturing relationships with students while consistently reinforcing program expectations.
- Participate fully and effectively in school meetings or teams, including Committee on Special Education meetings, Department meetings, and teacher meetings.
- Manage and maintain classroom resources.

Required Education, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master's preferred.
- New York State Teacher certification in History for grades 7-12.
- Experience with at-risk youth and/or youth with special education needs preferred.
Abilities and Working Conditions
- Must be available to work a full-time first shift, Monday through Friday.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Ability to deal positively with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation: $55,000-$65,000
