Job Description: Supplemental Instruction (SI) Student Leaders

Department: Arts and Humanities

Reports To: Dean of Arts and Humanities

Pay Classification: $12/hour (PT)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Student Leaders facilitate weekly peer-led study sessions for students enrolled in ENGL 1301 or MATH 1314, 1332, or 1342. Leaders reinforce course concepts, assist with exam and assignment preparation, and model effective study strategies to promote student success. SI Leaders attend lectures, collaborate with faculty, and participate in SI staff meetings. This is a grant-funded, part-time position.

Minimum Required

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Grade of “B” or higher in ENGL 1301, MATH 1314, MATH 1332, or MATH 1342

Experience: Experience attending college-level courses in person (HCC, JCC, or BHEC) and online coursework

Core Duties and

Required Knowledge

Attend all class sections of assigned course(s) and take lecture notes, including instructor expectations and teaching/assessment methods

Promote SI sessions during class and encourage student participation

Conduct at least one weekly SI session, with additional sessions during peak academic periods

Develop and lead interactive reviews of lecture notes, readings, and course materials

Create active, collaborative learning environments that strengthen academic study skills

Support students with note taking, test preparation, problem-solving, and exam strategies

Track and report attendance at all SI sessions

Meet with course instructors to align on content, provide updates, and review student feedback

Submit session plans, attendance records, and timecards to the Dean and SI Manager

Participate in mandatory SI training and meetings

Other Information: Must maintain full-time enrollment status (minimum 12 credit hours) while employed as an SI Leader

Flexible schedule required to attend lectures and conduct weekly SI sessions

Physical Requirements

Light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for sedentary work.
