  • SUMMARY: Instruct water aerobics classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

  • FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned: Lead energizing, fun, safe and educational classes. Instruct participants on effective workout methods by explaining proper techniques and demonstrating the exercises. Teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific methods. Ensure proper equipment is available and music is ready for each class. Build effective, authentic relationships with members; helping to build the connection with the YMCA. Share information on aquatics programming and subsequent schedules. As appropriate participants to other YMCA programs. Maintain accurate, complete and timely program records including but not limited to attendance sheets and accident/incident forms. Understand, communicate and consistently apply all safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor immediately. Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age. CPR, First Aid and AED for the Professional Rescuer Certifications as well as Emergency Oxygen. YMCA Water Aerobic/Fitness certification or equivalent. At least one year of experience teaching water fitness classes preferred. Strong communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal) Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions; frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
