Job Overview
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Grade 6 Math Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that inspires a love for mathematics in young learners. As a Grade 6 Math Teacher, you will play a crucial role in building foundational math skills, using both traditional and innovative teaching strategies to ensure every student's success.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans for Grade 5 students in line with the district's math curriculum and standards. Teach key math concepts such as addition, subtraction, basic multiplication, number sense, shapes, measurement, and problem-solving. Use a variety of instructional methods and strategies to accommodate different learning styles and support students at varying levels of proficiency. Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet individual needs. Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment where students feel confident in exploring mathematical concepts. Provide targeted support for students struggling with math concepts through small group instruction and additional resources. Integrate technology tools and resources to enhance instruction and engage students in interactive, hands-on learning experiences (e.g., interactive whiteboards, educational software, apps, etc.). Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, ideas, and best practices for teaching math effectively. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in math instruction and technology integration. Encourage a growth mindset, perseverance, and a positive attitude toward math in all students.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, or a related field. Valid teaching certification in LA for Elementary Education or enrollment in an approved alternative certification program. Proven experience teaching math to elementary-aged students, particularly in Grade 5 (preferred). Strong knowledge of foundational math concepts and strategies for teaching young learners. Experience with or openness to integrating technology into the math curriculum (e.g., interactive math programs, virtual learning tools, and apps). Ability to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that promotes mathematical thinking and problem-solving. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to assess student performance and adjust instruction to meet diverse needs. Passion for teaching math and fostering a positive attitude toward learning. Desired Skills: Experience with digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Seesaw, etc.). Familiarity with educational software and interactive tools for teaching math (e.g., Mathletics, Khan Academy). Willingness to learn new technologies and incorporate innovative teaching methods into the classroom.
