  • Range: $20.00 - $25.00 Hourly The Pawtucket YMCA and MacColl YMCA based in RI are seeking dynamic and engaging Basketball Instructors to lead youth and teen basketball sessions while also supporting pre-school programming. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, age-appropriate basketball instruction, while creating a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all participants. The ideal candidate will have the ability to coach and develop players ages 6–teen, while also following established pre-school curriculums (ages 2–5) to help create a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience for younger participants.

  • Functions:  Lead and instruct basketball sessions for youth and teen participants, focusing on skill development, game understanding, and enjoyment of the sport.  Support and deliver pre-school basketball sessions by following established curriculums designed to promote fundamental movement, coordination, and early skill development.  Supervise groups of children and teens, ensuring a safe, structured, and positive environment at all times.  Follow all YMCA policies, procedures, and standards, including safety protocols, behavior guidance strategies, and child abuse prevention policies; make ADA accommodations where appropriate.  Plan and deliver sessions that are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and aligned with YMCA values, with a focus on character development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  Build positive relationships with participants by modeling strong communication and leadership skills.  Create opportunities for participants to build confidence, problem-solve, and actively engage in sessions.  Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding participant progress and program details.  Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program events as required.  Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and overall program organization.  Perform other duties as assigned.

  • QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred. Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required. Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire. Previous experience working with children preferred. Previous experience working with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. Ability to understand and comply with YMCA Child Abuse Prevention policies. Completion of criminal background check and screening in accordance with YMCA standards. Completion of required Child Abuse Prevention training prior to and throughout employment. Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with youth.
