About the role

Provide academic and behavioral support to students with special needs in a junior/senior high school setting. Coordinate with teachers to manage instructional efforts, monitor attendance, and handle crisis intervention and behavioral reporting.

The Madonna Heights School is a fully accredited New York State Regents Junior/Senior High School for adolescent girls who are struggling in their community school or live on the Madonna Heights campus at our Group Residence [https://scoorg.wpengine.com/programs/madonna-heights-group-residence/] or Residential Treatment Facility [https://scoorg.wpengine.com/programs/madonna-heights-residential-treatment-facility/]. Small class sizes provide an active learning environment. Students have the opportunity to participate fully while receiving individual attention as they learn, explore and develop leadership potential. Day students are referred by their local school district.

I. Specific responsibilities

  •  Provide extra assistance to students with special needs.  Assist students individually or in small groups academically.  Supervise students.  Work with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.  Arrange with classroom teachers to collect student assignments.  Enforce classroom values.  Responsible for assisting with classroom behavior.  Responsible for completing students point sheets.  Assist in crisis intervention for students.  Responsible to record information behavior on ABC sheets. 
  • Complete the following reports when necessary: informations, behaviorals, and incident reports.  Provide communication to members of the Behavior Support team regarding any behavior requiring intervention.  Responsible to monitor the attendance of all students assigned to their class.  Performs all duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 Teacher Assistant Certificate  Acceptable clearance checks for State Central Register, Driver license and fingerprinting as required by the program.  Compliance with health regulations for physical/mantoux testing.  Attending TCI class for certification/re-certification and passing a test upon completion of course is a minimum requirement for employment.

  •  Be a team player.  Have a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.  Possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families.  Ability to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately. Please note

This is a full year position that includes regular academic school year as well as the summer school program. Candidates must be available to commit to the entire duration of the assignment.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Teacher Assistant Certificate and pass required state clearance checks and health screenings. Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) is a minimum requirement for employment.
