Description SANDRA AND LEON LEVINE JCC The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte.

Position purpose

The Camp Mindy Specialist is responsible to provide specialist teaching skills in specific program areas that enhance campers skill level.

Essential functions

Under the supervision of the Camp Director, Camp Specialists are responsible for the planning, conducting, and supervising of a specialized activity as part of a team of teachers dedicated to the development of each camper’s skills in a day camp setting.

Responsibilities

Supervise camp group (groups vary in size) Supervise health, safety and activities of campers Develop, implement and supervise specialty program, including maintenance of specialty areas, ordering supplies as needed, accounting for inventory and writing a final report on program Teach all program skills taught during the specialist-led activity Prepare camper reports and records as required Participate in parent related program, e.g., “Meet the Counselor”, Friendship caravan, etc. Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings Supervise, encourage and teach junior camp staff as assigned Meet with supervisor to evaluate self and camp program Attend all staff trainings as assigned by Camp Director Any other responsibilities as assigned by Camp Director

Requirements

College Degree (preferred) Camping and/or leadership experience Good character and integrity Positive physical and mental health The desire to work with children in a day-camp setting Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience Ability to take guidance and supervision Activity skills and the ability to transmit/teach skills to campers Ability to relate to other counselors and children Supervised by: Camp Director and Assistant Director
