Position Summary

CWI is seeking an engaging and student-focused Adjunct Instructor to teach Linux and related IT courses in classroom, online, and technology-enhanced learning environments. Instructors play a key role in supporting student success through innovative teaching methods, inclusive instruction, and meaningful assessment and feedback. Courses may include evening, weekend, or off-site instruction as needed. Faculty are encouraged to stay current in their field, participate in professional development, and contribute their expertise to advancing student achievement and workforce readiness.

  • Deliver High-Quality Linux and IT Instruction
  • Teach Linux and related CSIT courses in alignment with CWI curriculum and catalog standards.
  • Facilitate learning in traditional, hybrid, and technology-enhanced classroom environments using Canvas LMS and instructional technology.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans, instructional materials, and teaching aids that support student learning and participation.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to students regarding academic performance and progress.
  • Promote Student Success and Inclusive Learning
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that supports students from diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage active student engagement and participation throughout the educational process.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and support appropriate course placement and persistence.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and behaviors that reflect the mission and values of CWI.
  • Maintain Instructional Excellence and Industry Relevance
  • Utilize student learning outcomes and assessment measures to evaluate instructional effectiveness.
  • Participate in instructional evaluations and implement continuous improvements to teaching practices and curriculum.
  • Maintain current industry knowledge, certifications, and technical expertise in Linux, networking, and related IT disciplines.
  • Complete required professional development, in-service training, and instructor certification activities.
  • Support Departmental and College Operations
  • Meet all scheduled classes consistently and comply with attendance and reporting procedures.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, college activities, and collaborative initiatives as assigned.
  • Contribute to curriculum discussions and recommend program improvements based on industry trends and workforce needs.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by department leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Preferred 3 years of industry experience acquired by full-time, successful employment in the applicable field. Teaching experience, especially at the community college level preferred, but not required. CWI can develop the successful candidate as an Instructor.
  • Must currently hold LPIC, CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent certifications or be able to acquire such before beginning instruction.
  • Preferred CISCO CCNA or better and have experience with one of the following: MCP, A+, Net+, Server+.
  • Must be willing to obtain CISCO instructor certification.
  • Industry affiliations preferred.

*Successful candidates are required to reside in Idaho by the first day of work for College of Western Idaho. **This course is taught in-person utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System.
