Recreational Therapist/Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Position Summary

The Recreational Therapist/RBT supports children with autism and other developmental delays by helping them build meaningful skills, stay engaged, and enjoy their therapeutic experiences. This dual-role blends therapeutic recreation with evidence-based behavioral strategies to encourage growth in communication, social skills, emotional regulation, and functional play.

Under the guidance of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Recreational Therapist/RBT follows individualized treatment plans, leads both structured and play-based activities, and creates motivating opportunities that build confidence and independence. This position works closely with a multidisciplinary team—including behavior analysts, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists—to provide consistent, coordinated care for each child.

Requirements

  • Certification in Recreational Therapy
  • Criminal background check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CPR certification
  • Understanding of HIPAA and adherence to all policies
  • Works with integrity and ethically
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and spend time on your feet as well as an ability to lift items up to 25 lbs on occasion

Responsibilities

  • Administer recreation based interventions such as sports, games, dance, drama, arts, and crafts in order to address the needs of clients to improve physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning.
  • Plan and facilitate community and parent activities
  • Design activities which support all aspects of a client’s therapy plan as it integrates with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Organizes age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the purposes of ensuring client participation in learning activities.
  • Work collaboratively with an intradisciplinary team including ABA, OT, PT, and Speech Therapy.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, confidentiality and mandated reporting standards as set by Children With Opportunity.
  • Maintain appropriate social distancing, safety, and enhanced protective hygiene practices both on and off the job. (We provide PPE, caregiver communication tools and practices, and limit exposure through small work groups.)
  • Communicate clearly and effectively - both orally and written - with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Attend meetings, training, and workshops to acquire further knowledge.
