About the Role

At RPA, physical wellness looks different because we believe movement, wellness, and play should be accessible and meaningful for every student. We're looking for a dynamic, creative Recreation Teacher who is ready to create a new playbook for what physical activity looks like in middle school. This role centers on inclusive activities that support lifetime fitness, such as pickleball, disc golf, hiking, yoga, and rock climbing on our indoor wall, designed to level the playing field for all ability levels and help students discover what movement means to them.

What you'll do

Curriculum & Instruction Design and implement a rotating curriculum of alternative physical and wellness activities, including pickleball, hiking, yoga, disc golf, and rock climbing Teach fundamental movement mechanics, including locomotor skills, object control, stability, and balance Adapt activities so every student, regardless of athletic background, feels successful and motivated Design and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and provide timely, actionable feedback Inventory and maintain specialized equipment to ensure a safe, organized environment Facilitate group challenges that develop RPA's future-ready skills — teamwork, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and self-awareness Model a growth mindset by turning setbacks into meaningful learning opportunities Assess and manage risks when implementing both indoor and outdoor recreational activities Culture and Collaboration Establish a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking and a growth mindset Maintain regular contact with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and academic expectations Participate in grade-level planning and interdisciplinary projects Contribute to elective curriculum team meetings and school-wide initiatives
