Must be at least 16 years old and meet state licensing educational requirements. Requires successful background clearance and completion of mandatory safety and abuse prevention training.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assistant Teachers/Facilitators provide a quality experience for children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and fostering relationships within families.
1. Assists classroom teacher to implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
3. Supervises children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
4. Cultivates positive relationships, participates as needed in parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
5. Maintains a clean and safe program site and equipment.
6. Maintains required program records.
7. Supports fundraising efforts, attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Collaboration: Communication & Influence
1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state licensing regulations
2. At least 16 years of age
3. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred
4. Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
5. Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; curriculum training
6. Complete within 30 days of hire: BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA)
7. Ability to relate effectively to and develop meaningful relationships with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, including ADA compliance. Successful clearance of background check required.
8. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
9. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
10. Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.
