Librarian / Library Media Teacher (K–12) Mooseheart Child City and School, Inc. Mooseheart, IL Job Type: Full-time Classification: Exempt Position Overview Mooseheart Child City and School is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Librarian / Library Media Teacher to support students in grades K–12 through a comprehensive library and media program. This position plays a key role in promoting literacy, digital citizenship, research skills, and a lifelong love of learning while supporting the academic goals of the school community. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, organized, and inclusive learning environment that aligns with curriculum standards and the Mooseheart Model of Care.
Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning Provide direct instruction to students in grades K–12 on library skills, research strategies, digital literacy, and responsible information use Develop and deliver engaging lessons that support literacy development and encourage reading engagement Differentiate instructional strategies to meet diverse student learning needs Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and support curriculum objectives Curriculum and Program Development Develop instructional plans and measurable learning objectives Align library instruction with educational standards and school curriculum Evaluate and update library materials and instructional resources to support student achievement Student Support Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed Provide additional support to students experiencing academic challenges Encourage independent learning, critical thinking, and effective research practices Library Management Maintain an organized, accessible, and student-centered library environment Manage circulation and inventory of library materials Assist students and staff in locating and utilizing instructional and research resources School Culture and Professionalism Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment Address student behavior in alignment with the Mooseheart Model of Care Maintain professional communication and relationships with students, staff, and administration Participate in professional development and ongoing training opportunities Additional Duties Support school-wide academic and literacy initiatives Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by school leadership
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field preferred Valid Illinois teaching certification and applicable licensure requirements Minimum age of 21 years Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of literacy instruction, research skills, and instructional strategies across K–12 grade levels Previous experience working with children or adolescents preferred Experience with classroom or behavior management strategies preferred Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff Must successfully complete a background check and DCFS fingerprint clearance Work Environment School-based environment serving students in grades K–12 Combination of classroom instruction, library management, and student support responsibilities Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and administration About Mooseheart Child City and School Mooseheart is a residential childcare community and school dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where children and adolescents can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
