The Fencing Instructor is responsible for planning and conducting safe, effective fencing classes in compliance with YMCA standards. Key duties include managing equipment, ensuring participant safety, and maintaining professional interactions with members and staff.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a CPR/AED certification (or the ability to obtain one within 60 days). Six months of related experience is preferred, along with the physical ability to assist participants and manage equipment.
Under the direction of the Director of Healthy Living and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Fencing Instructor will be responsible for conducting a safe and effective specified fencing class in compliance with the standards, policies and procedures of the Ann Arbor YMCA. It is expected that instructors will possess leadership, organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans. Instructors must demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
CPR/AED Certification is required or ability to obtain within 60 days. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Six (6) months experience working in a related field is preferred. Must be flexible to work with a wide variety of people. Multi-lingual ability is a bonus.
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Must be able to lift and/or assist participants up to 180 pounds in weight. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
