Polytechnic School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Cross Country Coach to support our boys and girls cross country program at both the JV and varsity levels. This is a paid coaching position. Responsibilities
- Specific duties include but are not limited to the following: ● Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices, workouts, and training schedules ● Support athletes at all levels — JV and varsity, boys and girls — in skill development, race strategy, and overall athletic growth ● Attend all meets, practices, and team events as required ● Help foster a positive, competitive, and inclusive team culture ● Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and athletic department staff ● Assist with administrative duties as needed, including travel logistics and equipment management ● Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment; ● Willingness to take on other duties as needed. Physical requirements and work environment ● Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts; ● Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; ● Work outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Qualifications● Prior competitive experience in cross country and/or track and field (required) ● CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season (required) ● Strong understanding of distance running training principles and race preparation ● Ability to work with student-athletes of varying skill levels and ages ● Excellent communication and organizational skills ● Passion for working with and mentoring high school athletes ● Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities
