Job Description

Job Summary Tutors will work at local elementary schools to provide tutoring services to early elementary children one on one. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct tutoring sessions in which each student is actively involved in exploring and learning the material. Review course concepts, provide alternate explanations, and offer multiple strategies for reviewing and reinforcing information. Help students to identify resources and to develop problem-solving strategies they can use when studying on their own. Other related duties as assigned. Additional Responsibilities Collect and submit data to the LTPR at the end of the semester. Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings. Maintain literacy center inventory. Participate in occasional recruiting events. Minimum Requirements Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates. Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students. Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP). Preferred Experience and Education College of Education major Tutoring experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications. Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines. Outstanding customer service skills. Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills. Problem analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn and use multiple software programs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other Requirements Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions. Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule. Promptly complete all required trainings. Submit time sheet biweekly. Position is temporary, subject to funding and/or need. TB screening. Reliable transportation to travel to assigned school. Pay of Rate: $10.50/hour for up to 19 hours weekly All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check. Graduate Students: · Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester. · International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines. · Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA. Students who will be graduating may enroll for less than half time for their final semester. Must submit proof of graduation. Federal and State Work Study positions It may also be advantageous for you to apply for financial aid to assist you with meeting your educational goals. This may also include being eligible for the Federal Work Study and State Work Study programs.

Requirements

Must be a student enrolled at least half-time with a minimum GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduates. Requires a TB screening, reliable transportation, and a criminal history check.
