Work Schedule

  • There are multiple positions available at either the Warwick campus or the Providence campus. The hours are typically:
  • Monday through Thursday 8am-12:30pm (Providence)
  • Monday through Thursday 11:30am-4pm (Warwick)

Job Summary

CCRI Advantage is an innovative program that helps associate degree-seeking CCRI students get a strong start in college. The goal of the program is to help students prepare for college-level coursework and to meet CCRI’s proficiency milestones prior to starting credit-bearing courses in their first semester of college. The program seeks to successfully transition math and reading/writing students from their developmental status to successful completion of credit-bearing/transferable course credits.

The tutor will serve as a an integral member of the team (three-person team), assessing student achievement, delivering seven-week CCRI Advantage English reading and writing curriculum, providing one-on-one and small group tutoring in-person to students struggling with course subject matter. They will provide in-classroom support to students as an embedded tutor, and facilitate advisory time for additional student learning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person tutoring to individuals and small groups.
  • Review organizational and study strategies with students.
  • Support students during in-classroom lectures and activities and during the optional advisory period.
  • Reinforce and review concepts taught in class.
  • Act as a role model for students by demonstrating good study skills and community building.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for students outside of class hours.
  • Refer students to college support services and other college departments when necessary.
  • Communicate with campus coordinator, facilitators and/or Learning Leaders to ensure continued successful operation of the program.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Minimum Requirements
  • Earned Associate's degree in subject specific area, or related field.
  • Submission of official college transcript(s).
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in providing tutoring in higher education, a community organization or high school.
  • Demonstrated advocacy and commitment to student success and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by community college and developmental education students.
  • Experience with Blackboard Ultra, Zoom, MS Teams, and WebEx.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Bachelor’s degree in subject specific area, or related field.
