  • This position supports the head coach in all facets of the program, including player development, recruitment, game preparation, and academic support, while fostering a strong team culture centered on integrity, discipline, and excellence on and off the court.
  • This role also upholds the university's values as a premier HBCU and NCAA Division I member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
  • NATURE AND SCOPE: Internal Contacts – head women’s basketball coach, assistant women’s basketball coaches, vice president of athletics External Contacts – assistant women’s basketball coaches at MEAC institutions PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Coaching & Player Development Assist in planning and conducting high-level team and individual training sessions.
  • Instruct student-athletes on basketball techniques, strategies, and performance improvement.
  • Maintain a commitment to safety, sportsmanship, and NCAA compliance at all times.
  • Contribute to pre-game, in-game, and post-game coaching responsibilities as assigned.
  • Collaborate on player development plans including off-season workouts, strength and conditioning, and film sessions.
  • Recruitment Identify, evaluate, and cultivate prospective student-athletes who align with Howard’s academic standards and competitive goals.
  • Manage recruiting in designated geographic areas or by position group.
  • Build meaningful relationships with recruits, families, high school coaches, and AAU programs.
  • Coordinate on-campus visits and assist with travel, logistics, and recruiting presentations.
  • Student-Athlete Support & Culture Building Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in coordination with academic support staff.
  • Encourage personal growth and leadership development in student-athletes.
  • Promote a cohesive, positive team culture aligned with Howard’s mission and values.
  • Serve as a mentor, advisor, and advocate for student-athletes’ holistic well-being.
  • Support adherence to team rules, university policies, and NCAA regulations.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior coaching or playing experience at the collegiate or professional level.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for recruiting and competitions.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • SALARY RANGE DISCLOSURE: $60,000 - $65,000 Compliance
