About the role

The adjunct faculty member will teach first-semester English Composition courses (ENG-1100) in face-to-face sections. Responsibilities include delivering course content and supporting the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago.

  • Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty for the English Program in the College of Theology, Arts, & Humanities. Part-time teaching opportunities are available throughout the academic year. Applicants with expertise that matches course scheduling needs will be contacted for an interview. Current opportunities include teaching the following courses for the Fall 2026 semester: ENG-1100: English Composition - Several face-to-face sections of ENG-1100, the first-semester composition course, are available at various times; some meet Tuesday/Thursday for 75 minutes and some meet Monday/Wednesday/Friday for 50 minutes. Minimum Requirements: Education: M. A. in English or Rhetoric/Composition required; Ph.D. in English (or ABD) preferred Experience: At least two years of experience teaching first-year college writing courses preferred; applicants with other relevant teaching experience will be considered Excellent organizational skills Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to use a learning management system (LMS): CUC currently uses Blackboard Ultra Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to handle all situations in a pleasant and professional manner Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) Application Information: Interested individuals should include the following in their online application: Cover letter Teaching Philosophy Unofficial copies of post-secondary academic transcripts that reflect completion of advanced degree(s) (Official transcripts will be required upon hiring of successful candidates.) Requirements

A Master's degree in English or Rhetoric/Composition is required, with a PhD preferred. Preference is given to candidates with at least two years of experience teaching first-year college writing.
