Purpose of the Role The Elementary Teacher creates and sustains a dynamic, academically rigorous classroom for students in first through fifth grades. Through inquiry-based learning, the teacher facilitates engaging experiences that spark wonder, imagination, problem-solving, and deep understanding across disciplines, while fostering a respectful, inclusive classroom Acting as a guide and mentor, the teacher supports the development of independence, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, and personal responsibility. ISP Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain a well-organized Montessori classroom environment that fosters independence, inquiry, collaboration, and meaningful learning. Deliver Montessori lessons and individualized instruction across core subjects, including language, mathematics, science, cultural studies, geography, and practical life. Support students in developing executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, responsibility, independence, and self-motivation. Promote social-emotional growth by guiding students in grace and courtesy, collaboration, leadership, conflict resolution, and respect for others. Observe students regularly and maintain accurate records of academic, behavioral, and developmental progress to inform instruction. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and readiness levels of all learners. Design hands-on, engaging learning experiences that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and real-world application. Maintain clear, professional, and consistent communication with families regarding student progress and classroom activities. Collaborate with assistants, specialists, and colleagues to support student success and effective classroom operations. Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions, lunch, outdoor play, field trips, and dismissal, ensuring safety and well-being. Participate in school events, staff meetings, professional development, and parent conferences as an active member of the school community. Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous growth and lifelong learning. Skills Deep knowledge of Montessori principles and the developmental needs of elementary-aged children Strong classroom management along with highly organized planning and execution skills Skilled in guiding independent, inquiry-driven, and collaborative learning environments Excellent communication, observational, and interpersonal abilities Committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere Proficient in differentiating instruction to meet a wide range of learning styles and needs Team-oriented professional with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues Qualifications Montessori Elementary certification in ages 6-9 years-old (AMS, AMI, MACTE, or equivalent) or willing to become Montessori certified. Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred CPR and First Aid certification preferred Experience Experience teaching elementary-age students in a Montessori or child-centered educational environment preferred Experience creating and maintaining a prepared Montessori classroom environment Experience with project-based, hands-on, or inquiry-based learning approaches Experience collaborating with families and educational teams Physical Requirements: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
