The Herron Classical Schools Network (Herron High School, Herron-Riverside High School, and Herron Preparatory Academy) is a Mayor-sponsored charter network and a member of the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) Innovation Network. The Herron Classical Schools network operates with the authority to make decisions about all aspects of our schools and is overseen by its own board of directors. As Innovation schools, we partner with IPS to give students a broader base of resources while maintaining our status as tuition-free charter schools.

The Kindergarten Instructional Assistant at Herron Preparatory Academy provides instructional support to assigned classroom teacher(s) and leads small-group targeted instructional intervention. The Kindergarten Instructional Assistant reports to the Head of School.
Specific objectives and responsibilities of the position include
Responsibilities
Provides instructional and behavioral interventions under the direction of a teacher that reinforces Tier 1 reading, language arts, and/or mathematics instruction. Helps prepare scholars for and administers formal and informal assessments. Assists the classroom teachers with the implementation of the lesson and intervention plans, including supporting small-group instruction and preparing lesson and classroom materials. Completes progress monitoring tasks to track scholars’ growth over time and the effectiveness of interventions provided. Creates and maintains working relationships between parents, scholars, and school staff. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Nurture a positive relationship with colleagues. Demonstrate respect for colleagues. Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives. Work as a team player. Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner. Demonstrate commitment to our diversity and inclusion statement. Assists with administrative school functions when not in the classroom. Attendance at scheduled faculty meetings, professional development meetings and other sessions as determined by the Head of School. Attendance at evening events that include but may not be limited to Parent Orientation, Meet the Teacher Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences and Open Houses. The dates of these events are listed on the Master Calendar. An expectation of professional and ethical conduct and professional growth throughout the year. Collaboratively works with the administration and others to support the policies, guidelines, and working procedures for Herron High School. Performs other duties as determined necessary by the administration. An assignment of 180 days with vacation as approved by the Head of School.

Qualifications
2 years experience in an academic setting required. Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities. Ability to work in a team environment. Experience working in deadline-driven environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Bachelors’ Degree preferred, high school diploma required. Eligibility to qualify for an Indiana Emergency Permit preferred. Compensation Negotiable depending on experience.
