Position Summary

Athletic Trainer - Temporary, under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, is responsible for the care of students competing in Kent School’s athletic programs. The position is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries within the School’s comprehensive Sports Medicine Program. Athletic Trainer - Temporary collaboratively works with coaches, health services staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include

  • Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Evaluation and assessment of athletic injuries.
  • Treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care during practices, games, and athletic events.
  • Develop rehabilitation and return-to-play programs for injured student-athletes.
  • Provide counseling and education to student-athletes regarding injury prevention, wellness, hydration, conditioning, and recovery.
  • Maintain athletic training records, injury documentation, and treatment notes.
  • Athletic training administrative duties.
  • Coordinate care with physicians and other allied health professionals.
  • Assist with concussion management protocols and emergency action planning.
  • Prepare and maintain athletic training facilities, supplies, and equipment.
  • Provide coverage for athletic events and practices, including evenings and weekends as needed, under the direction of the Athletics Office, School Doctor, and Assistant Athletic Trainer.
  • Support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department and the School.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, or Head of School.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in an independent school, collegiate, or secondary school athletic environment preferred.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC/BOC).
  • Connecticut State Athletic Training Licensure or holder of a CT Dept of Public Health Temporary permit.
  • Certification in C.P.R. / AED and First Aid.
  • Connecticut Public Service License preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission of the School.
  • Demonstrated experience as a successful athletic trainer.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Be dedicated to making positive contributions to the student experience both inside and outside the Athletic Department.

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays as required by the athletic schedule.
  • Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
