Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs, 12-14 hours per week

Starting
Salary Range
$26.39-$34.33 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
Position Summary
Serve deaf/hard of hearing students, faculty, and staff using American Sign Language or other manual sign systems in classrooms, during films, counseling and tutoring sessions, school-related meetings, activities, community events, and as needed for urgent situations.
Required Qualifications
- Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
- Conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.
- Requires an Associate's Degree and 6+ years of relevant experience.

- National level:
- National
- Interpreter
- Certificate (NIC), and/or
- State level: Board of Evaluation Interpreter (BEI) Advanced, and/or Kansas Quality Assurance Screening (KQAS) level 4/4 or higher.
Position Details

- Provide highly effective sign language interpretation and transliteration services to meet the individual communication access needs for deaf/hard of hearing students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Adhere to the interpreting Code of Professional Conduct.
- Complete appropriate level of preparatory work before interpreting assignments to ensure familiarity with concepts and terminology relevant to the assignment.
- Assess individual communication skills in speech, including lip-reading, signs, and fingerspelling, to utilize the most preferred mode of communication with each individual.
- Interpret language both receptively and expressively.
- Observe any specific challenges or problems encountered with deaf/hard of hearing individuals and relay information to Access Services leadership.
- Remain aware of new developments and techniques in the interpretation field, attend workshops and conferences, and review current literature and technology.
- Provide a range of administrative support to Access Services when needed.
