Position Title
Teacher Aide/Paraprofessional Status: Non Exempt Reports to: Principal, Inclusion Specialist or Classroom Teacher
Position Objective The purpose of this position is to assist teachers or inclusion specialist in providing academic, behavioral, and spiritual support to students in the Catholic school setting. The paraprofessional works in collaboration with the teacher or inclusion specialist to create an inclusive classroom environment where all students are respected, valued, and supported in their God-given potential. This role supports the mission of Catholic education by promoting a Christ-centered learning environment rooted in dignity, respect, and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Essential Duties Coordinate with classroom teacher or inclusion specialist to implement instructional strategies, behavior plans, and accommodations for students with diverse needs.
- Conduct small group or one-on-one instruction under the supervision of a teacher or inclusion specialist.
- Oversee student engagement and task completion during classroom instruction, transitions, and activities.
- Collect data on student progress, behavior, and participation as directed by the teacher or inclusion specialist.
- Update documentation logs or notes as requested by the supervising teacher, inclusion specialist or administrator.
- Organize instructional materials and resources to support differentiated instruction.
- Guide and support students in developing independence, responsibility, and confidence in their learning.
- Facilitate positive and respectful interactions between students, reinforcing Catholic virtues.
- Communicate professionally with students, teachers, and families under the direction of the classroom teacher, inclusion specialist, or principal.
- Report relevant student concerns to the appropriate school personnel.
- Maintain a spirit of cooperation, flexibility, and respect for school policies and Catholic teachings.
- Supervise and monitor student behavior in classrooms, hallways, parking areas, and other school environments to promote a safe, respectful, and orderly atmosphere for all students.
- Apply consistent, fair, and faith-based discipline strategies that uphold Catholic teachings, ensuring a respectful, safe, and nurturing learning environment for all students.
- Demonstrate and maintain a professional appearance that reflects the dignity and mission of Catholic education, setting a visible standard of excellence and respect for faculty, students, and the wider school community.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, reporting to work on time and adhering to assigned schedules to ensure the safety, supervision, and continuity of care for all students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to support instructional practices and behavior plans as directed by the teacher. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and adults. Demonstrated patience, empathy, and commitment to inclusive education. Capacity to reflect the mission and values of Catholic education in all actions. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Willingness to grow professionally and spiritually through training and formation. Basic Qualifications Practicing Catholic preferred or commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education. Complete and maintain diocesan safe environment expectations. High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate’s degree or Paraprofessional Certificate preferred. Experience working with children in educational or pastoral settings preferred. Understanding of child development and ability to adapt to various learning styles.
