Description

Position Summary

The Gymnastics/Tumbling Sports Instructor is responsible for leading safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate gymnastics and tumbling classes for youth participants. This individual will foster a supportive environment that encourages skill development, confidence, and fun, while ensuring safety and adherence to YMCA values.

Key Responsibilities Essential Responsibilities

  • Instruct weekly gymnastics and/or tumbling classes for youth, ages 4–12 (or as designated).
  • Prepare and deliver structured lesson plans aligned with YMCA program standards.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by monitoring student behavior and reinforcing safety procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized gym/activity space, ensuring equipment is properly used and stored.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding progress, behavior, and class updates when appropriate.
  • Support YMCA programming by participating in special events, session transitions, and promotional activities when needed.
  • Report all incidents, injuries, and facility/equipment concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Attend required staff meetings and trainings, including child abuse prevention and CPR/First Aid (if applicable).

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Experience in gymnastics, tumbling, cheerleading, dance, or related physical education activities.
  • Prior experience teaching youth in a recreational or instructional setting strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for youth development.
  • Ability to lead engaging classes and adjust instruction to suit varying ages and skill levels Work Schedule:
  • Classes run once per week for 2 hours per session (typically Tuesdays evenings 6-8 pm)
