- Category: TrainingThe Gentle Yoga Instructor plans and leads safe, welcoming, and restorative classes focused on improving mobility, flexibility, balance, strength, and overall wellness for members of varied ages and fitness abilities. Classes will primarily emphasize Gentle Yoga and Gentle Chair Yoga, creating an inclusive environment that supports individuals who may prefer or require lower-impact movement options. The instructor should also be comfortable incorporating foundational strength and functional movement principles to improve stability, posture, and everyday movement patterns. Job Responsibilities Plan and organize class formats, methods, and goals that align with Gentle Yoga and Gentle Chair Yoga programming and member needs Lead engaging and accessible Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga classes with modifications and progressions suitable for varying fitness levels, mobility limitations, injuries, and physical abilities Incorporate functional strength and stability-based movement principles when appropriate to improve balance, posture, muscular endurance, and overall physical function Create a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere where all participants feel comfortable and supported Convey a professional image through a positive attitude, supportive coaching style, and proper attire Establish and maintain excellent customer service and assist members in a courteous and encouraging manner at all times Provide safe instruction and guidance to ensure proper body alignment, movement patterns, and use of equipment Prepare music and equipment before class begins and ensure classes start and end on time Ensure a clean and safe environment by assisting members with equipment set-up and storage and maintaining organized equipment areas Work all assigned shifts and secure approved substitute coverage when necessary Attend all staff meetings and required training sessions Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Fitness QualificationsNecessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with a variety of age groups and fitness levels, including beginners, active older adults, and individuals with mobility limitations or physical restrictions Strong understanding of Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga principles, modifications, and injury prevention strategies Knowledge of strength training fundamentals and the ability to safely integrate functional strength exercises into programming when appropriate Ability to demonstrate exercises safely and effectively while emphasizing proper technique and body mechanics Ability to communicate clearly and create a welcoming, supportive class environment Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible during all class sessions Maintain group exercise and yoga certifications through continuing education opportunities Answer general fitness and wellness questions while providing safe recommendations and guidance Ensure the safety of all class participants and proactively prevent accidents or injuries Education and Experience 1–2 years of professional Yoga instruction experience preferred Experience teaching Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga, restorative movement, senior fitness, or mobility-based programming preferred Familiarity with strength training principles and functional movement patterns preferred High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required Ability to independently develop class routines and adapt programming based on participant needs Strong awareness of proper body mechanics and injury prevention techniques Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Professional Yoga Certification (200-hour Yoga certification or equivalent preferred) Additional certifications or experience in Chair Yoga, Gentle Yoga, senior fitness, mobility training, functional movement, or strength training are preferred Valid Adult CPR/AED Certification required (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
