Founded in 1924 and located in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood, The Bush School is an independent school serving students from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. Summary of position: The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Athletic Department as a Girls Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s goals towards building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community. We believe that a diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and talents are necessary to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and families; we encourage diversity in our applicant pool. The Bush School athletic program works within the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and the Emerald Sound Conference to provide athletic opportunities and competition for students of all gender identities. While most sports are offered separately for boys and girls, the Athletic Department staff is committed to working collaboratively with each participant to determine options that best suit each student-athlete’s journey. Under the guidance of the Head Coach, the Girls Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach assists with planning and leading practices, coaching contests, and transporting the team to off-campus practices and contests using a school vehicle. The Assistant Coach supports the development of the girls volleyball players throughout the season, including postseason play. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director. The season begins on Monday, August 24, 2026, and continues through early November, depending on post-season results. Practices are held Monday through Friday between 3:45 and 7:45 p.m. (no longer than two hours per day) at The Bush School. For away contests, coaches generally meet their athletes at Bush, travel together to the practice or contest site, and return to campus at the end of the day. While other duties may be assigned, qualified candidates will be able to manage the following key responsibilities and tasks: Provide a positive, inclusive, safe, and challenging experience for participants Teach sport-specific skills, strategies, training methods, and safety practices Communicate with athletic department staff effectively and promptly Attend meetings and trainings scheduled by the Athletic Director Handle student health forms with confidentiality, be aware of individual health concerns, and respond appropriately to medical needs. Comply with all school, conference, and state policies and regulation Successful candidates will have: Expert knowledge of given sport Coaching experience and certification preferred Ability and willingness to be a team player Satisfactory criminal background check that meets school standards Safe driving record that meets school standards Ability to work and connect with people Outstanding communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Enthusiasm to contribute, grow, and develop as a member of the Blazers Athletic Department Team Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications Additional Requirements: Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date) Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings Complete required coaching certifications (WIAA, SafeSport, Vector) Compensation/Benefit Information for this position: Stipend for this temporary, term-limited position: $4,625 Note: stipend amount reflects the total stipend when the coach attends all practices, contests, and team activities, including the post-season.
