Preschool Assistant Teacher (Early Learning Center) $18-19 per hour, 28 hours per week. Position Summary

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is seeking experienced and passionate Preschool Assistant Teachers to support the ongoing leadership of our Early Learning Center as an Early Start CT Provider. Working collaboratively with the Head Teachers, other Assistant Teachers, and the Senior Program Director, this role supports Head Teachers in creating a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children, typically assisting with daily routines, supervising playtime, and implementing activities. Essential Job Responsibilities Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, and Head Teachers, the Assistant Teacher assists with and is responsible for the following areas: Maintain safety and ensuring the welfare of all enrolled children, supervision of children during all activities, indoors and out of doors. Maintenance of appropriate standards for children's discipline and behavior standards using non-punitive methods. Day-to-day operation; including maintaining a harmonious and efficient work environment Perform housekeeping duties as assigned, including daily preparation and clean-up of snack/lunch. Attend all staff meetings and other work-related functions, including special events, as required. Interact with parents when necessary or referring appropriate questions and concerns to program teachers or Directors. Participate in planning program curriculum. Assist in maintaining and providing periodic testing of emergency response plan. Continue to engage in professional development. Other responsibilities as assigned. Required Qualifications Education: High School diploma or GED required; CDA or related college coursework preferred. Previous professional experience in an OEC licensed childcare or daycare setting highly preferred. OEC approved CPR and First Aid (or ability to obtain within required timeframe). Knowledge of OEC regulations, CT ELDS, Early Start CT, NAEYC and developmentally appropriate practice. Dependable, punctual, and enthusiastic with a strong commitment to early learning and community based youth development. Bilingual (Spanish/English or another language) a plus. Ability to lift 40 lbs. regularly (up to 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance), bend, and sit on the floor. Reliable transportation required.
