About the role

The Teacher Assistant assists the HS/EHS teacher in creating a child-focused learning environment and delivers lessons and activities. They also respond to emergencies, support individualized plans, and co-teach with lead teachers and volunteers.

Description Job Summary

Assists the HS/EHS teacher in the 0-5 classroom setting in providing a child-focused learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Excellent communication skills with parents, teachers, and other staff. Ability to be patient and understanding when working with children and interacting with parents. Assists with the planning of an individualized curriculum. Delivers and assists in lessons and activities. Ability to relate to children participate in creating an enjoyable atmosphere. Co-teaches with lead teachers, aides, and classroom volunteers. Responds to emergency situations, such as first aid and conflict management. Assists in following through with individualized intervention plans. Assists in implementing individual and transition plans for children. Have knowledge of and adhere to the Head Start Performance Standards and program policies. Fulfills the role of the lead teacher in his/her absence. Supports diversity in the classroom and workplace. Coordinates work schedule to meet the needs of the program. Attends all regularly scheduled staff meetings. Attends all meetings, workshops and/or conferences as assigned. Develops a professional development plan to support career goal. Job responsibilities may vary depending on the program model, site needs, and locations

Requirements

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum of a high school diploma/GED Successfully complete the Child Development Associate (CDA) program within BVCAP time guidelines accordance with Federal Head Start Performance Standard 1302.91(e)(3) Must be able to obtain CPR & First Aid certification within 30 of employment. Position is contingent upon the successful completion of a federal background check

The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to forty-five pounds. The employee must have specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
