  • At Hands of Heartland, we believe that people with developmental disabilities are people first.
  • We are looking for compassionate and caring individuals to join our team as a Habilitation Specialist to provide care to the individuals we support at the Laura Dester Children’s Center (LDCC).
  • The LDCC is an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) that serves 25 clients who do not require physical assistance with mobility or feeding.
  • Most direct support work focuses on habilitation and behavioral management.
  • You will work with children and adolescents who have developmental disabilities as well as behavioral support needs and mental illness.

What you’ll do

  • Provide direct care and support to children and adolescents
  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Implement individualized care plans and follow specific protocols
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence
  • Teach life skills, social skills, and daily living routines.
  • Implementing behavior plans, de-escalation, data collection, emotional regulation support.
  • Assist with medication administration and documentation as required
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals

Hours needed

  • You can choose to work one of the following available shifts
  • 6:15 am to 3:00 pm
  • 2:15 pm to 11:00 pm
  • 10:30 pm to 7:00 am
  • We do NOT hire part-time, PRN, or Weekend-only positions

Skills needed

  • Experience in providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities or similar populations preferred but not required
  • Ability to work effectively with people with diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills to interact with individuals, families, and team members
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, team orientated environment

  • Pay increase to $20.42 after 6 months of employment
  • Shift differential of $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 6pm and 6am
