Job description

Description JOB SUMMARY

This position provides Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) prevention and Talking is Teaching education services to parents and caregivers of newborns at area hospitals at the bedside and in conjunction with hospital education programs. This position also utilizes opportunities to provide education about other agency programs and services.

  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides to Tulsa area hospitals Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention and Talking is Teaching education services to parents and extended families of newborns and young children through bedside visitation and hospital NICU caregiver groups.
  • Utilizes “The Period of Purple Crying,” a research-based curriculum developed by The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome and “Talking is Teaching” curriculum as primary teaching tools.
  • Keeps accurate program records regarding participant demographic information to be utilized for PCCT annual reports, grant applications, reporting to program stakeholders, etc.
  • Presents the Family Connects model to families at participating hospitals and schedules Family Connects home visitation appointments.
  • Maintains necessary licensure and other documentation/records as required by the area hospitals to maintain Allied Health Professional “credentialing” status.
  • Attends agency staff and department meetings, participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Consistently follows The Parent Child Center’s policies, procedures and program protocols.
  • Demonstrates the agency’s values of compassion, respect, learning, adaptability and achievement.
  • Works well with culturally diverse communities and families and is culturally sensitive to families and their needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Bright Beginnings Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.

Schedule Three weekends per month, Saturday and Sunday from 8am - 5pm.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Current registered nurse or licensed practical nurse licensure required. Possesses a valid driver’s license, ability to safely and reliably drive to and from local hospitals daily to provide services. Maintains current BLS certification. Ability to work Saturday or Sunday as part of official work week and some evenings if needed. Excellent oral communication and active listening skills. Excellent ability to establish rapport with both professionals and consumers. Excellent computer skills. Ability to lift 25 lbs
