Summary/Primary Purpose

This position protects, guides, stimulates, and helps the children in our program. This position shares in developing our programs and program procedures. This position becomes the counselor, teacher, spiritual leader, confidante, and role model.

Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend general staff training and meetings, and complete initial training.
  • Prepare for daily lessons.
  • Lead and participate in all facets of the program: recreation, snack, craft, pool, fieldtrips, etc.
  • Follow schedule as provided or as instructed by supervisor.
  • Report absences or tardies to supervisor via phone call asap.
  • Help prepare snacks and meals.
  • Provide Christian devotions.
  • Enforce and adhere to The Salvation Army policies, including no swearing, no alcoholic drinking, no drug use, no smoking/vaping, and no violence.
  • Follow progressive disciplinary procedures when needed, in consultation with coordinator and corps officers.
  • Check out and check in equipment, putting items away in the proper place.
  • Basic cleaning as needed to include sweeping, wiping off tables, spot mopping spills, empty garbage cans and other cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Keep personal electronics/phone use to a minimum. Phone/electronics to be put away when directly responsible for children.
  • Comply with dress code appropriate for camp/outdoor activities. Polo or t-shirts, or comfortable, modest clothing, shorts, or pants. Shoes that cover heels and toes for safety, except when at pool.
  • Monitor computer usage, as needed.
  • Document and report accidents.
  • Comply with Safe From Harm policies.
  • Assist in camp clean-up at the close of each camp, in preparation for the next group. Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
  • Perform open and closing procedures including: opening and locking doors, turning on and off lights and equipment, getting out and putting away equipment.
  • Help plan physical activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED

Qualifications

1. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously 2. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships. 3. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.

Other Qualifications

Must pass all applicable background checks. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Working Conditions

Must be able to keep up with children who are full of energy. Must be able to frequently be in the sun and outside in varying weather conditions. Noise level is moderate to loud.
