  • Category: RecreationThe Youth Development Professional plans, leads, and evaluates programs and activities that support youth in the areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, and citizenship. This role helps create a safe, positive, and engaging environment where children and teens can learn, grow, and thrive. Responsibilities include supervising youth, encouraging participation in programs and activities, serving as a positive role model, and building strong relationships with members and their families. This position may also assist with special events and leadership programs such as Youth of the Year, Keystone, and other club initiatives. The Youth Development Professional helps ensure programs are operated safely and effectively, maintains activity areas and equipment, prepares reports as needed, and supports outreach efforts to grow membership and participation. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, this position may provide oversight and guidance to other Youth Development staff to ensure continuity of services. Key Responsibilities Create a welcoming and supportive environment for youth Supervise and engage children and teens during programs and activities Encourage participation and assist with member registration and orientation Provide mentorship, guidance, and positive role modeling Assist with planning and implementing educational, recreational, and leadership programs Monitor program quality and ensure member safety at all times Assist with special events, outreach efforts, and branch activities Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces Report facility or equipment maintenance needs Follow and uphold all Salvation Army policies and procedures Support the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Experience working with children and youth preferred Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work well with children, families, volunteers, and staff from diverse backgrounds Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record preferred Willingness to participate in required professional development and training programs Work Environment This position works in both indoor and outdoor recreational settings and may require standing, walking, supervising activities, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
