Job description

Overview The Health Assistant will provide support for College Health Services during office hours and/or be on call to respond to calls when the office is closed, as well as staff the Impaired Student Recovery Area and special events.

Qualifications

EDUCATION If a student, must maintain a 2.0 or higher-grade point average. Required LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Must possess a current EMT Certification for the state of Pennsylvania OR be a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Required Maintain required certification or licensing as required by the licensing/certifying board. Required EXPERIENCE One (1) year as an active EMT, CNA, LPN, or CMA. Preferred ABILITIES AND SKILLS Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Required Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required Ability to work on own initiative. Required Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and needs. Required Must be willing and able to attend training as requested. Required Determines nature and extent of illness or injury. Required Ability to communicate verbally; via telephone and radio equipment. Required Ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions. Required Ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations. Required Ability to read English language manuals. Required Ability to interview patient, family members and bystanders. Required Ability to document, in writing, all relevant information in a prescribed format in light of legal ramifications. Required Ability to converse in English with coworkers and ambulance personnel as to status of patient. Required Certified in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer or Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Professional Required Possession of a valid driver's license. Preferred Candidates possessing a valid driver's license may be required to drive a College vehicle on or about campus in performing the functions of the position. Those candidates possessing a valid driver's license would be subject to a background check and motor vehicle report. Required

Responsibilities

Be knowledgeable of College procedures and act accordingly. Receive calls. Assist in lifting carrying and transporting patients if needed. Provide care following established protocols or medical direction if required. Report nature of illness or injury to receiving medical facility. Replace/stock supplies. Check all equipment/supplies for future readiness/response. Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of equipment and supplies. Maintain familiarity with all specialized equipment. Serve in the impaired student holding area (ISRA), overseeing impaired students who may present a danger to themselves and are unable to return safely to their residences. Provide necessary care and observe condition of impaired students monitoring for the need for additional medical services. Remove soiled linens and provide appropriate care to patients in the Health Center. Attend meetings; critique medical charts with supervisor; attend training sessions as required. Physical Standards and Special Job Features Able to move about freely on campus. Must be able to work in an uncontrolled stressful environment. Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 lbs. (250 lbs. with assistance). Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform all tasks related to highest quality patient care. Pay Transparency $17.65 per hour.
