00 pm - 9:00 pm, Tuesday - Friday plus 4 hours on Saturday

Responsibilities

The Activities Coordinator oversees the activities component of Youth Mentors. Oversees and provides direction for safe and therapeutic recreation activities for youth. Ensures the recreational experience compliments their therapeutic goals and contributes to improved self-esteem. This position is responsible for providing recreational opportunities both indoors and outdoors, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

· Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire. · Must possess a valid state issued license. · Have one year of experience working directly with children. o Two years of social services education may be substituted for the required experience · Able to pass required Background Checks. · Legally authorized to work in the United States and able to provide verification. · Able to complete and maintain all training requirements per agency policy and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

· Paid experience working with children and/or youth in a group treatment orientation. · Possess the skills and ability to work independently with the special needs of children in care. · Demonstrate effective communication and problem solving skills. · Bachelor's degree, preferably in either Recreation or Social Work related field (preferred, not required.) REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization. Ability to learn and operate required agency software and technology. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for illustrative purposes): 1. Supervise to assure safe and therapeutic recreational programming that will provide opportunities to learn positive leisure skills. 2. Make recommendations for expenditures to enhance the recreational program and monitor the department expenses.

  • Maintain mandatory training and pursue opportunities for education to further professional development.
  • Outdoor recreation 1.
  • Provide on-campus educational groups for youth in areas of environmental awareness, adventure programming and outdoor education.

  • Plan and coordinate extended outdoor adventure activities.

  • Provide a risk management plan that ensures a safe environment for programming adventure activities.
  • 4.
  • Provide training and experience to staff to aid their development as leaders, professionals and in areas of safety and risk management.
  • Arts & crafts 1.
  • Assume responsibility for coordination and planning of arts and crafts projects for youth.

  • Plan and carry out activities associated with “Rec Rec.” 3.
  • Assume responsibility for materials and resources utilized in “Rec Rec.” 4.
  • Develop and coordinate a regular schedule compatible to treatment programs and youth needs.
  • Additional requirements 1.
  • Ability to withstand physical and emotional demands associated with performing direct care duties.

  • Occasional moving of heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) in training and recreation.
  • 3.
  • Performing physical intervention duties and restraints on clients.
  • 4.
  • Frequent moving and positioning self to complete tasks.
  • 5.
  • Ability to operate and utilize objects, tools, equipment, supplies and controls.
  • 6.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with clients, co-workers, and other third parties in person, in writing, and remotely and must be able to use technology to review information and enter/retrieve data.

  • Interaction with clients with various mental and physical conditions, including clients who could potentially be carrying an infectious or communicable virus, pathogen or disease.

  • Interaction with clients who may act out physically, verbally or otherwise.

  • Ensuring proper cleaning and sanitization that may involve the use of chemicals.
