About the role

The Athletic Coach will instruct students in the fundamentals of sports while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. They will also ensure the physical and emotional safety of all student-athletes and maintain high ethical standards.

Description The Athletic Coach will instruct students or individual players in the fundamentals of sports or a specific sport. They will also promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth while maintaining high ethical standards and ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Educates individuals, students, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for a sport or sports. ?

Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions and competitive events. ?

Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games and competitive events. ?

Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced. ?

Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential. ?

Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses. ?

Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely. ?

Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly. ?

Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to a particular sport or sports. ?

Develops and implements strategies and systems that teach fundamentals and advanced skills appropriate for high school athletes. ?

Fosters a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture that emphasizes respect, effort, and accountability. ?

Serves as a role model in leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship. ?

Emphasizes and monitors academic achievement and personal responsibility for all team members. ?

Knows and follows the rules of the Florida High School Athletic Association and guides the program within the mission, philosophy, and goals of Melbourne Central Catholic High School. ?

Communicates appropriately and respectfully with parents, teachers, and school stakeholders, and escalates issues as necessary in collaboration with the Vice Principal of Athletics. ?

Communicates in a timely manner with the Vice Principal of Athletics regarding student athlete eligibility and works collaboratively to ensure only eligible student athletes participate in team events. ?

Maintains accurate rosters, statistics, and records of all team participants, contest records, and award winners. ?

Creates practice and contest schedules and coordinates facilities and transportation needs appropriately and in a timely manner in collaboration with the Vice Principal of Athletics. ?

Tracks team budget in collaboration with the Vice Principal of Athletics, and maintains team needs and expenses within that budget. ?

Supervises the proper and respectful use and storage of team equipment, and collaborates with the Vice Principal of Athletics about any equipment needs and/or concerns ?

Collaborates with the Vice Principal of Athletics and communications team to release important team-related news. ?

Collaborates with the Vice Principal of Athletics to handle any problems regarding coaches, players, or the athletic program.

Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CATHOLIC FAITH Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field supplemented with two (2) years of experience as an athletic coach preferred. CPR/AED/First Aid Trained preferred. Must be willing to complete within 1 year of employment and keep certificate active.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces. Evening and weekend hours required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities. Prolonged periods of standing or walking. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, see, hear, and use their hands for fine and gross motor functions; required to see up close and from far away. Position may require lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 lbs.
