1 support to students with disabilities to advance their intellectual, emotional, and social development. Responsibilities include assisting teachers with lessons, modifying coursework, and implementing behavior support plans.

Company Summary

Minnesota Connections Academy (MNCA) is a tuition-free, online public charter school for students in grades K-12 throughout Minnesota. MNCA is a member of the Minnesota Transitions Charter School (MTCS), a K-12 academic community. MNCA is a state-approved online program operated through a contract with Connections Academy of Minnesota, LLC, to provide the educational program and other services. MNCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary: and Responsibilities

The Special Education Paraprofessional will assist teachers with implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual, emotional, social and physical development of students with disabilities in a safe, healthy learning environment. This position will work directly 1:1 with students to provide supports in the general and special education classrooms throughout the day.

  • The Special Education Paraprofessional will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
  • Guide and assist student with lessons, activities and technology tasks under the direction of the teacher
  • Reinforce concepts across settings that were taught in specialized instruction
  • Participate in meetings where communication and implementing strategies are discussed
  • Assist teachers with classroom activities and lessons
  • Adapt and modify coursework under the direction of the teacher
  • Assist teachers with behavior support plan implementation
  • Assist teachers and student with the use of assistive technology to further learning opportunities and expression of knowledge
  • Assist student under the direction of Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist
  • Basic office duties related to the documentation and implementation of specialized programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years experience working with children, preferably children with disabilities, and demonstrate highly qualified status; or AA degree with 1 year of experience working with children preferably children with disabilities
  • Personal Care Assistant certification (upon hire)
  • Intermediate computer/keyboarding skills
  • Basic instructional and assistive technology knowledge
  • Advanced reading and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to compute rate, ratio, percentages and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to relate to students including those with disabilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information at all times
