A Brief Overview Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a per diem Life Support Educator.
- The Life Support Educator functions as a leader in all components of American Heart Association (AHA) courses (ACLS/BLS/PALS/PEARS): primary responsibility includes lecture of all required AHA class content, initial mega code demonstration; group control skills; knowledge and facility with all Life Support clinical and medical devices and equipment; setting up and using educational presentation tools; creating, presenting, and leading case-based scenarios, case discussion stations, skills instruction and skills evaluation stations, practice stations, remediation stations, and written examinations; the educational philosophy of the Life Support Education and Outreach; and relevant policies and procedures for conducting AHA courses.
- Travel to community and Ambulatory sites required.
- Evening and weekends required as needed.
- Financial Stewardship: Life Support and Outreach educational programming is efficient and cost effective and evaluated for opportunities to maximize cost/benefit ratios and return on investment Provide education to external students and support contracted clients who seek CHOP to provide education Clinical Excellence: Teaches in Life Support programs for staff and assures competence for changes in current practice, new or revised procedure or equipment that align with hospital initiatives, promote quality patient/family centered care and are compliant meet regulatory requirements In collaboration with the Life Support Education and Outreach team revises and implements Life Support Education that address clinical area initiatives and/or changes in patient population as necessary Professional Engagement: Support clinical advancement and career coaching for all staff through participation in teaching and coordinating portions of Life Support education by mentoring AHA instructors in their role as Training Center Faculty.
- Advancing Practice: Collaborates with other departments to provide Life Support Education in clinical practice areas.
- Provides structure for assuring Life Support Education is in alignment with regulatory expectations and other departmental initiatives Innovation & Learning: Applies evidence-based practice to the planning and implementation of unit based / institution wide educational program/projects
What you will do Serve as Lead Instructor for AHA courses Teach American Heart Association courses as Lead Instructor Monitoring ACLS, BLS, PALS, PEARS instructors (Training Center Faculty) Facilitating set-up/break down of course equipment Completing/submitting rosters Recruiting instructors Utilize online resources for AHA training and CHOP systems Enrollware : Use this information systems to track and enroll students/instructors CHOP myCareer : for attending students for regulatory requirement tracking @CHOP community site AHA Instructor Network site AHA Training Center Manager site Maintain proficiency in simulation technology and education strategies for AHA curriculum Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation Evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education Participate in technical training as necessary Provide education on-site at all CHOP campuses/locations and for external clients at their location of choice. Participate in educational outreach to the general public and Emergency Medical Services community. Other duties as assigned Education Qualifications High School Diploma / GED - Required Bachelor's Degree - Preferred Experience Qualifications At least three (3) years working experience in a healthcare occupation - Required At least five (5) years in a healthcare occupation that requires the incumbent to maintain and utilize ACLS and PALS certifications - Preferred Skills and Abilities Communication/technical teaching skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to work to deadlines Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic 24/7 healthcare environment; able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or Respiratory Therapist (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or Osteopathic Respiratory Therapist (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or Paramedic - Pennsylvania EMS Registry - upon hire - Required and American Heart Association Instructor - ACLS/BLS/PALS - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 6 months - Required
