Teaching Assistant
Job Description: 2026-2027 School Year
JOB GOAL
To assist the teacher(s) and/ or other school personnel by performing assigned tasks in order to provide a quality educational program for students.
NOTE
Teaching Assistants may be assigned to ESE, Basic, Title I, ELL/ESOL, Guidance, Media, Pre-K, Enrichment, Substitute teacher or assigned to perform clerical duties as needed to support school programs.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Examples of essential functions
Prepares or assists teachers with instructional tasks, to include but not limited to small groups or individually, organizing instructional and other materials, assist in computer labs and physical education, parental involvement activities.
Performs support tasks such as copying materials, laminating, typing correspondence, and filing paperwork and documentation.
Assists instructor in maintaining classroom order and discipline; reinforces rules of the school and classroom.
Participates in school meetings and professional development activities involving program orientation, curriculum design, materials and evaluation procedures.
Assists in administration of tests, e.g., FAST, STAR, Literacy First.
Assists students with restroom use. May include other health related duties or transfers, and/or diaper changing, following appropriate training.
Perform lunchroom duty including general clean-up, maintaining discipline and assisting students with special needs, which may include feeding.
Assists with student supervision to and from various rooms and buildings on school campus, may include getting on or off school bus and field trips.
Prepares instructional reports and completes required forms, schedules and other data as required.
Provides guidance and assistance to students as directed, in order to ensure appropriate assimilation of class/course content, supporting student success and achievement.
Provides communication link between contact teacher and LEP student and parents by using
home language as appropriate.
Performs related duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee.

Tasks require the ability to exert somewhat strenuous effort in work involving moderate physical activity typically involving some combination of standing; walking; reaching with hands and arms; kneeling; crawling; climbing; balancing; bending; crouching or twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or carry, push and/or pull up to 40 pounds. Manual dexterity is required.
Sensory Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, tasks require oral communication ability; the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds; visual perception and discrimination; and the ability to distinguish color.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as outdoor weather conditions and noise.
Minimum Training, Experience, and Requirements
- Must possess one of the following
- Associates degree or higher
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Sixty (60) college credit hours from an accredited institution
- An acceptable score on the State mandated Paraprofessional Exam
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Bilingual ability may be required.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adults.
