Position overview

Under the immediate supervision of the Clinical Director, the Vocational Counselor provides direct support to individuals participating in vocational programs. This position oversees vocational activities, supervises a community-based cleaning crew, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary treatment team to help clients clarify and achieve their vocational goals. The role supports clients in developing job-related skills and transitioning into competitive employment settings.

Salary: $40,000- $44,000 based on education

Schedule

  • M-Th 10:30-7,
  • F 8:30-5

Location: Multiple locations in Joliet, New Lenox, Lockport, Elwood

Reports to

Clinical Director

Network or department: Network 4

Essential functions

Supervise individuals working on a cleaning crew, supporting their vocational skill development.

Create and distribute work schedules in collaboration with PSR staff.

Meet or exceed service billing benchmarks.

Maintain timely, accurate service documentation and Medicaid billing.

Communicate any concerns regarding vocational progress to the Clinical Director and appropriate team members.

Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with program participants.

Collaborate with the treatment team to address vocational needs and progress.

Work with the Clinical Director to implement evidence-based strategies that foster job readiness.

Apply behavioral principles under the direction of the Clinical Director to support vocational functioning

Skills and abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in implementing behavioral interventions under supervision.
  • Support individuals in learning positive alternatives to challenging workplace behaviors.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when engaging with participants, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Adaptable and collaborative within multidisciplinary settings.

Physical demands

Lift up to 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.

Push and pull up to 75 pounds; push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds.

Perform physical movements including squatting, stooping, crouching, and kneeling.

Stand, sit, or remain stationary for extended periods.

Drive and operate motor vehicles.

Perform repetitive hand and finger movements for computer and phone use.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field preferred
