Description KIPP Memphis Public Schools is part of KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program), a national network of tuition-free, open-enrollment, public schools that are successful in helping students from educationally underserved communities develop the knowledge, skills, character, and habits needed to succeed in college and the competitive world beyond. There are currently 275 KIPP schools across the nation serving nearly 120,000 students. Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis serves over 1,200 K-12 students in our three North Memphis schools and almost 900 alumni on their journeys to-and-through college with our KIPP Forward Program.

Reporting to the Principal, the Education Assistant is responsible for performing many organizational and classroom management tasks to support both KIPP Memphis teachers and students. Education Assistants will perform additional duties, as necessary, to ensure that all students learn.
Key Responsibilities: Effectively communicate and coordinate with the instructor to assist with daily lesson plans
Aid in preparing materials to be used for student projects
Provide individual assistance to children in small groups to ensure an understanding of concepts
Strictly adhere to the school's rules and policies
Ensure the safety of the students within the classroom, on field trips, and throughout the campus
Assist the teacher in reviewing, grading, and recording homework and tests
Maintain, observe, and assess student progress through assessments, and be aware of students who need more one-on-one guidance
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree, OR two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours), OR a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test, and a high school diploma is required Preferred Previous experience working with students, particularly in urban or diverse communities
Key Skills and Abilities Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children of various ages
Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and parents regarding students' progress and behavior
Strong organizational skills are essential to aid in preparing materials for several daily lesson plans
Personal accountability and patience are essential when working with children daily in a classroom environment
Ability to prioritize activities quickly and support the teacher in instances that are exceptionally busy
Basic writing, math, and science skills are necessary to assist in teaching students and answering their questions
Ability to manage potentially challenging behavior from students and maintain a professional and patient demeanor
Experience fostering positive relationships with children and adults in a learning environment
Other Qualifications
Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Occasional travel to KIPP Memphis campuses may be required.
