About the role

Support the Preschool Director in supervising preschool campers and ensuring their general safety in a small group setting. Participate in daily activities including check-in/out, meal times, and extended care duties.

Overview The Preschool Camp Counselor position is responsible for supporting the supervision of preschool campers (ages 3 and 4) in a small group setting provided by the Preschool Director. This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.

Responsibilities

Assist the Preschool Director in the responsibility for the general safety and supervision of campers in assigned group. Assist Activity Directors during activity periods on an as needed basis. . Supervise and participate in all assigned aspects of the campers’ day which includes but is not limited to: Camper check-in and check-out; meal times; activities and extended am and extended pm duties as assigned. Attend and participate in one week of General Staff Training. YMCA of the Pines has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of youth in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all cases of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.

Qualifications

Must be 16 years of age (or will complete 10th grade this school year) or older Have knowledge in the supervision and safety of children. Must possess leadership skills that can assist in encouraging and motivating campers. The ability to teach songs, games, stories, sports and other related skills is preferred. Incumbent must show enthusiasm, dedication, responsibility and maturity. WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel & bend (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 16 years old or completing 10th grade with knowledge of child safety and supervision. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work irregular hours exceeding 40 per week is required.
