Job Summary

We are looking for a Special Education Teacher's Assistant to work with students ages 5-22 years who are on the autism spectrum. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in patient care who are eager to transition into the education field. As a vital member of our support team, you will provide essential assistance in both classroom and therapeutic settings to ensure our students thrive academically and emotionally.

This position involves providing 1

1 support for students with Level 3 Autism, helping them with essential life skills such as dressing, toileting, and feeding. The role may also involve supporting students who sometimes express frustration through challenging behaviors, including physical or verbal reactions, or self-injury. Compassion, patience, and a commitment to helping students achieve their full potential are key in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group support to students in the classroom and therapeutic settings.
  • Assist with daily activities such as lunch, snacks, and toileting to ensure students’ needs are met with dignity and respect.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement to help students build confidence and achieve their learning goals.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff to implement personalized educational and behavioral plans.
  • Monitor and document student progress, reporting observations to the teaching team.
  • Support students in developing social skills and engaging in classroom activities.

Education: Highschool Diploma or GED Equivalent, 36 College credit hours preferred*

Requirements

Teacher Assistants are expected to apply for their substitute teaching certification within (60) days of hire. KVC Missouri will cover the costs associated with your application and certification for candidates who have completed 36 college credit hours.
