Minimum Qualifications
Certified International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Three (3) years clinical experience Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Certified International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Valid driver's license and proof of liability insurance required Job Summary: Works independently under the direction of the WIC Director for the WIC program. The lactation consultant is responsible for providing support for the mother-infant breastfeeding dyad in the WIC program. The tasks include assessment, planning, interventions and evaluation of lactation support and education for participants in the postpartum period. The lactation consultant will participate in the periodic training of WIC staff and WIC breastfeeding peer counselors as required by the State WIC Agency. Job Duties: Facilitates breastfeeding support for the mother-infant breastfeeding dyad. Actively promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their own goals for breastfeeding. Adjusts teaching to meet participant needs including language and literacy level. Evaluates the effectiveness of participant and family education. Documents lactation assessment in accordance with practice standards in the electronic medical record or other required documentation. Understand and utilizes equipment related to breastfeeding. Participates in the evaluation of new products and equipment, as necessary. Conduct breastfeeding trainings for WIC staff. Participates in quality improvement to benefit the improvement of clinical interventions. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledgeable and skilled in the physiology and clinical management of breastfeeding. Assesses patient and family emotional, cognitive, social, and motivational status relative to learning and determines their educational needs and priorities. Adjusts teaching plans to meet participant needs. Develops or obtains educational materials to facilitate participant understanding of content. Maintains professional growth to maintain high-quality support and education in an out-patient setting.
Salary Range
Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule: On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.
